Michael Freel, Director of Golf Operations
Mike comes to IU from Blacksburg, VA where he spent 5 years as the Director of the Castle Rock Golf and Recreation Facility in nearby Pembroke, VA. Prior to entering the golf business, he spent 8 year as the Assistant Director for Facilities and Informal Recreation at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). Freel is a native of South Bend, IN and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Ball State University in Administration of Sport, Recreation and Physical Education and Sports Management while competing on the Cardinal Football Team. His wife, Amy, is the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Performance for the IU Athletics Department. They have four children (Ben, Matt, Ashley, Luke) and reside in Bloomington.
Brent Emerick, Course Superintendent
Brent Emerick is superintendent of the IU Golf Course and also is athletic turf manager for the university. A native of Angola, Ind., he oversees maintenance of the championship and par-three courses, as well as the state-of-the art varsity practice area. Also under his direction is maintenance of the baseball, softball, football, soccer, track and field and cross country facilities.
Emerick is a graduate of Michigan State with a degree in turf grass management. He began his career at Tri-State University.
